“Development of a conservatory case for the safe exhibition of silk banners” is a two-year research project by Polish and Norwegian scientists.
It links research on a unique group of banners painted on silk with the development of an innovative design for a prototype conservatory case which allows them to be exhibited safely and preserve them from further degradation.
Outstanding specialists from leading scientific institutions have been invited to work together on the project. They are working at the Royal Castle on Wawel Hill (project leader) and the Norsk Institutt for Luftforskning from Kjeller (the Norwegian Institute for Air Research – the Project Partner) – one of the leading scientific centres in the field.
The project and its results are extremely important owing to the significance of certain of the banners for Polish cultural heritage. The solutions arrived at during the project will assist in the preservation of valuable collections both in Poland and other countries.
Assistance has been provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through grants from the EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms.
