The Wawel Town

"The Wawel Town" exhibition is the story of everyday life right next to the castle and cathedral on Wawel Hill.  Since the Middle Ages, Wawel Town has been an excellent example of the coexistence of two interpenetrating spaces in a small area: sacred and secular. The exhibition is a collection of traces of the past, a fragmentary snapshot at the centre of which are everyday objects found on the hill. For the most part, these are small artefacts, modest, often devoid of artistic value and preserved only in fragments. They are a material trace of the presence on Wawel Hill of people about whom the archival books are mostly silent.

The highlight of the exhibition is the view from the terrace, which includes the now-defunct town and an impressive perspective on the hill, as well as on Krakow and its surroundings. In good weather, the distant peaks of the Tatra Mountains can also be seen.
