We’re Back!
Wawel Royal Castle is (partially) reopening!
On Monday, May 4, 2020, both courtyards and the Renaissance Royal Gardens will reopen. We are pleased to be able to welcome visitors to our outdoor areas—the Arcaded Courtyard, the Outer Courtyard, and the Royal Gardens—in the first stage of reopening. Our primary concern is for the safety and well-being of our visitors and staff and in these spaces it will be easier to maintain Coronavirus (COVID-19) safety measures (safe distancing etc.). Wawel Hill will be open 6:00 am–7:00 pm. To access the Arcaded Courtyard and the Outer Courtyard enter via the Bernardyńska Gate or the Herbowa Gate.
Royal Gardens Entrance (and exit) via the Austrian Gate located in the bastion (Kanonicza Street side)
Opening Hours:
Monday: 9:30 am–4:00 pm
Tuesday–Sunday: 9:30 am–5:00 pm Entry every 30 minutes; last visitor entry 30 minutes before closing
Individual visitors only, no guided tours, no reservations, tickets sold at entrance
Length of visit: 30 minutes max.
Coronavirus Guidelines
Visitor numbers: no more than 60 people admitted at any one time, no more than 15 people on the terraces at any one time
Visitors must maintain safe distances and supply their own masks and hand sanitizer/gloves. We apologize that we are unable to provide hand sanitizer at the entrance.
Dining The Café near the White Wall will sell only beverages for take-away (no table seating). The Trattoria Wawel (restaurant) and the Wawel Café will not reopen at this time.
No eating or drinking in the Royal Gardens and Arcaded Courtyard.
Toilet Facilities Toilets (fee: 2 PLN) located in the Outer Courtyard (next to the “Lost Wawel” exhibition entrance) will be open.
We look forward to successively reopening Wawel Royal Castle’s exhibitions (including, as promised, the Dutch Study, Italian Study, and Collector’s Cabinet) during future stages of reopening. Reopening dates will be posted as soon as information becomes available.
